Computer Network |
Introduction
Multiple computers connected to each other
for sharing the resources is called computer network. It is the system where
computers from different locations are connected to each other so that we can
transfer and share the data between various users. Have to share the hardware,
software database and people resources using a network system.
Advantages and disadvantages
of networking
Advantages
- It helps to share a printer, disk space, program, etc.
- It helps to share information between computers using a server computer
- It helps to share hardware and software between uses.
- It is a speedy and cheaper communication system.
- It has to share information between various computers.
Disadvantages
- · Data security may be lost due to more access to the system.
- · It need a technical person to control and handle the networking system.
- · It is expensive to install.
Device required for
computer networking
To connect the computer network we need
following devices:
1.
Computers: we need some computers to
make service and client on the computer network structure. The server computer is the main computer that controls and Tata to the clients.
2.
Communication media: The path to
transfer data from one computer to another computer is communication media.
There are two types of communication media or channel. To control the computers.
These are wired and wireless communication media.
3.
NIC (network cards): Network Interface
Card popularly known as network cards is essential to connect the computer
using communication media.
4.
Signal
conversion devices:
Different, devices like modem, router and gateway. Are used to convert the
signal from analog to digital and vice versa
5.
Network connecting devices: different
devices like the hub, sweet, Bridge.
And repeaters are
used to connect the computer network structure.
6.
Communication
software:
different software like Windows, Linux, etc is used to connect the computer
making of network structure.
Type of networking
The computer network can be classified on the
basis of the geographical area in three broad categories:
- · Local area network
- · Metropolitan Area Network
- · wide area network
Local area network
Local area network is private, low coverage network
that exist in a single office and building within only a Limited area.
Depending on the need of an organization and the types of Technology used
a LAN simple as two PCs and printer. It can extend
throughout our company and include voice, sound and video processing devices.
Basically LAN simple wired network connection. It has a main Computer
that works like a server and different workstations where users are located.
Most of the LAN within or building likes your school. Nowadays, it is
possible to establish a wireless LAN within a building.
Advantages
- · The the reliability of a network is high because of the favor of one computer in the the network does not affect the functioning of other computers.
- · Adding a new computer to the network is simple.
- · High rate of data transmission is possible.
- · Other computers can share peripheral devices like magnetic disks and printer.
Disadvantages
- · If the communication line fails, the entire network system breakdown.
- · User authority and user identification are poor.
- · It is not applicable to the long-distance network connection.
Metropolitan Area Network
Metropolitan Area Network is designed to extend
over an entire City. It may be a single network search as a cable
television network, or it may be a means of connecting on the number of LAN into a
large network so that resources maybe share LAN to LAN as well as device to
device. A MAN may be wholly owned and operated by a private company,
or it may be operated by a public company, search as a local Telephone
Company. Many telephone companies provide off popular service called
switch multi-megabyte data service which is also known as sods.
Advantages
- · Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) lies in between the LAN and WAN. Eat therefore increases the the efficiency of handling data while at the same time save the cost attached to wide area network.
- · Metropolitan Area Network offers centralized management of data. It will let you connect many fast LAN's together.
- · It is possible to use cable TV and telephone system using MAN.
Disadvantages
- · More the cable is required for a MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) connection from one place to another.
- · It is difficult to make the system secure from hackers and attackers.
- · The larger the network becomes more difficult to manage.
Wide area network
Wide area network is used to describe a computer
network spanning or regional, national or global area Police Stop for example,
for a large company the headquarters might be in capital city e and
reason all branches maybe in remaining cities. Near Regional Center are
connected to headquarter through wide area network. Therefore the transmission medium used in
normally telephone lines. Microwaves and satellite links. Wide area networks
provide long-distance transmission of data and information, image and video
information about the overall large graphical area that makes the price of country or
continent or even the whole world. In construct to large area networks, wide area
networks may be utilized publicly list our private communication devices usually
in communication and can, therefore, span and unlimited time of miles. A popular
example of a Wide Area Network is the internet.
Advantages
- · Messages can be sent very quickly to any ware. This message can have pictures and sound...
- · Over all large geographical area so long-distance businesses can connect on the one network Software and Hardware resource with connecting workstations.
Disadvantages
- · More the cable is required for a MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) connection from one place to another.
- · It is difficult to make the system secure from hackers and attackers.
- · The larger the network becomes more difficult to manage.
